Daily, you engage with your smart phones. You take photos and make videos, sometimes to capture the moment or create lasting memories. Whatever the reason for the clicks, there is a story behind your shots. Let us make the stories as memorable as the shots, using one of the most valuable tools in your pocket- your mobile phone.
Mobile Media Production is a skills-based course designed to introduce students to the production and content standards of professional video production. During the semester, we will engage with the visual journalism tools for news gathering and storytelling, including shooting and editing techniques for multi-platform and broadcast video. This class will include many outside class assignments, including watching, listening and reading journalism.
The course will include:
• Introduction of: Audio and video production skills using mobile devices; non-linear editing;
microphone consciousness and proper use; continued improvement on: time and project
management; project publishing and distribution using YouTube/Vimeo/Soundcloud and
WordPress for electronic portfolios.
• Number of stories or projects created for possible publication: 4-8

• Create videos that demonstrate an understanding of mobile video production and visual
journalism. (Application)
• Apply basic skills of production, pitching, and editing of videos using mobile video editor
(Foundational Knowledge and Integration).
• Integrate social apps into visual storytelling (Integration)
• Develop a professional brand by building electronic portfolio and practice content distribution
