Akinro is an associate professor of Mass communication at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas.

She holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University and an MBA in General business and management.

Akinro is a researcher at heart. Asking great questions are one of her strengths as she tries to understand customer and business needs. She has years of experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research. She has published several peer reviewed research articles, book chapters and book reviews. Her research interests focus on investigating product users, their perceptions, platform content, meanings and messaging. She uses her research to make recommendations for change.

Some of her works cut across user perceptions, crisis management, visual representations, social media, gender and race relations. She has published in journals such as International Communication Research JournalThe International Communication GazetteVisual Communication Quarterly and Newspaper Research Journal.

Akinro teaches Broadcast journalism, Research, Speech, and Conflict management. She is also the student media adviser.
